About us

Vision

Caravanserai Palermo aims to represent a point of reference for the meeting and intercultural exchange between local and international artists and the Palermo community.

Mission

Caravanserai Palermo promotes cultural exchange through the organization of artistic residences and activities related to original music and traditional music revisited in a contemporary key, as well as to performing and visual arts, creating an intimate and welcoming context and encouraging the growth of a transversal and inclusive community, building up a network with other local realities.

The main activities are divided into the following macro-areas:

  • Jam SessionCreating moments of interaction between artists from different backgrounds, through active listening and free improvisation.
  • MoonsessionIntroducing an attentive audience to an original artistic proposal presented in showcase format (max 60 minutes), within an intimate and curated context, to stimulate direct contact with the artists.
  • NocturnàliaOffering an intimate event in which two artists alternate with short sets in a specifically listening-oriented context.
  • Workshops and MasterclassesOffering training opportunities where local or resident artists share skills and knowledge with participants of all levels, fostering cultural exchange and collaborative learning.

In addition to that, Caravanserai Palermo, in an active collaboration with the MojoCoHouse co-living, also offers a structured programme of art residencies, facilitating interaction with the local community that eventually leads to events part of, but not limited to, our regular formats.

Events and Projects

Every Tuesday, from 8pm to midnight, Caravanserai Palermo hosts its weekly jam at the association headquarters of Via degli Schioppettieri 21. Our weekly jam sessions, also known as #MojoJam, always provide moments of conviviality and free improvisation between musicians and non-musicians alike. Participation is free for all members, without limitations of musical level, genre or style.

Moonsessions are small showcase events lasting a maximum of 60 minute, usually taking place on a bi-weekly basis on Sundays, that are hosted at the MojoCoHouse (via degli Schioppettieri 11, Palermo) and, more precisely, in the living room of the Luna (Moon) apartment, from which they take their name. The type of artistic proposal has no particular restrictions, apart from quality and originality: from singer-songwriters to electronic music, including experimental, world music and even reaching interdisciplinary areas such as theatrical and figurative arts performances. The structure of these events, which take place in an intimate space, also facilitates interaction between artists and the public.

Nocturnàlia is a format that takes place at the Spazio Solazzo (via degli Schioppettieri 21, Palermo) on an irregular basis and usually on Fridays. The format usually includes two mini-concerts by two different artists, typically designed to build an environment where music is at the centre of the event, and attentive listening from the audience and communication with the artists themselves are encouraged and facilitated.

Caravanserai Palermo organizes other types of events as well, such as workshops, masterclasses, vernissages and art performances. If you have anything to propose, feel free to reach out to us!
